The plural of octopus is “octopuses.” Some people will tell you it’s “octopi,” but they’re misinformed. “Octopi” assumes a Latin root, but, in fact, the word “octopus” comes from Greek.
E.g. After the birth of his most recent daughter, Dr. Octopus was forced to enter private practice. It turns out the glove and mantle bill for a dozen adolescent octopuses exhausts a modest public salary. Take that socialized medicine.
If you want to be pedantic—dream big, kids—you could make a case for “octopodes,” via the rules for Greek plurals. However it’s scientifically proven that people who use the word “octopodes” are jerks.
